Mosley and Arnold both fell short of division titles in Saturday’s final day of the 12th Annual Panhandle Fall Volleyball Classic at Mosley High School and Bay High School. The Dolphins (9-7) finished 3-2 for the two-day tournament, while the Marlins (8-8) went 2-3. Bay (2-9) was winless at 0-5. The event started with first round pool play matches Friday, with Mosley beating Northside (Ga.) in three sets 22-25, 25-18, 15-9, Arnold falling to Gulf Breeze 25-10, 22-25, 15-11, and Bay losing to St. John Paul II 29-27, 25-15. With two more losses to Choctaw (25-14, 25-3) and Blountstown (25-10, 25-18) on Saturday, the Tornadoes fell into the Copper Playoff Bracket, the lowest of the four divisions. Bay then fell to Florida High in the Copper Bracket semifinals and again to Wakulla in the consolation match. Mosley split its first two matches Saturday, beating Pace 25-19, 25-15, before falling in three sets to Pensacola Catholic 25-20, 23-25, 15-13. The Dolphins advanced to the Silver Playoff Bracket but couldn’t get past a South Walton team in the Silver semifinals that it defeated in four sets earlier in the week. Mosley rebounded to defeat Blountstown in the consolation match. Arnold lost a tough three-setter to Lincoln 27-29, 25-19, 15-11 on Saturday before knocking off Florida High 25-17, 25-16. The Marlins advanced to the Bronze Playoff Bracket final by beating St. John Paul II in the semis, but they lost to Crestview in the title game. South Walton took the Silver Playoff Bracket title with a win over Lincoln, while Florida High beat Pace for the Copper title, and Choctaw defeated James Clemens (Ala.) for the Gold title. While Marlins coach Sheryl Heninger said she feels her team still has a lot of work to do when it comes to consistent effort and focus, she said she believes there were positives to take from the weekend.
