Sissonville, Herbert Hoover students named St. Mary's Scholar Athletes of the Week

CHARLESTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —

As Herbert Hoover and Sissonville are set to square off in the Wendy’s Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week present by Marshall Sports Medicine Institute, two students have been named the St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athletes of the Week.

Ethan Granda was named the St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athletes of the Week for Sissonville High School. Granda is a senior at Sissonville and currently has a 4.67 grade point average.

Granda is the goal keeper for the Indians’ soccer team and in the winter, is a forward for the basketball team. He said he likes basketball more, but is better on the soccer field.

Granda said he hasn’t decided on a college yet, but said he wants to attend a Christian college. He said his life revolves around faith, school and sports.

He said he hasn’t decided on a major, but plans to continue to work hard in the classroom and earn as many scholarships as he can.

Senior Kristen Rager was named the St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athletes of the Week for the Herbert Hoover Huskies.

Rager currently has a 4.3 grade point average.

Rager is a cheerleader for the Huskies and said she has always played sports, but never fell in love with one until she got into cheerleading.

She is also a member of DECA, which is a club that prepares students in marketing, finance, hospitality, entrepreneurship and management.
