District 6A-10 teams return to district play Friday night with three matchups on tap.

One adds the extra influence of a city rivalry as the Cape Coral Seahawks host the Ida Baker Bulldogs at Dave Warkentin Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The other district matchups send Island Coast to Charlotte and Port Charlotte to North Fort Myers, both with 7:30 p.m. kickoffs.

"The kids are excited about playing Cape because we can get back on the right track in the district," said Bulldogs coach Brian Conn. "We would like to be playing better, for sure, and we're a little banged up. On offense, we've struggled to run the ball while the defense had tried to limit the big plays. Actually, I thought the defense played well last week."

Last week, the Bulldogs pulled out a 20-17 victory over Riverdale to improve to 2-3 on the season. They dropped their first district game to Charlotte while the Seahawks (0-4, 0-1) are looking for their first win of the season.

"At this point in the season, looking at our schedule, I think we are close to where we should be with our record," Conn said. "It's a different kind of mentality for the kids after the Braden River and Charlotte games. Regardless of how our last game went, we came back to win."

The Seahawks lead the overall series with the Bulldogs 8-3, but Baker has won the last two and three of the last four.
