The Pointers picked up a critical early season conference road win at rival Alma on Tuesday night. The win puts Van Buren at 3-1 in 5A West Conference play. The Pointers win back to back games for the 3rd time and have won 5 of their last 6 outings.
Van Buren jumped out to a 22-6 early lead. Alma closed it to 5 at halftime and were down 4 early in the 3rd quarter at 30-26. The young Pointers responded with a 9-0 run and never looked back for a 61-46 win.
Van Buren had a very balanced attack with 4 players in double figures (Jaxon Cazzell - 16, Conner Myers - 13, Glavine McDonald - 11, Drew Brasuell - 13) and a fifth with 8 points (Tobey Sayaxomphou). The Pointers also recorded their highest assist total on the season as well as the best assist to turnover ratio. Glavine McDonald led Van Buren with 6 assists on the night.
Conference play resumes on Friday night when league leading Vilonia visits Clair Bates Arena.
