The Pointers had a great showing in Cabot over the weekend, earning a 2-0-1 record.

Van Buren's Danny Romero and Josue Recinos had a goal apiece in the Pointers' 2-1 win over Valley View. The Pointers blanked Cabot, 2-0, thanks to goals from Recinos and Jesus Hernandez.

Coach Nathan Almond said first-year goalie Andy Lopez played well.

"He moved from the center back spot because we needed him, and has really worked hard to become a quality keeper in a short period of time," Almond said. "He is playing extremely well."

The Pointers and Jonesboro played to a 1-1 tie, with Issac Delafuente accounting for Van Buren's offense.

"My boys are playing well defensively," Almond said. "My back line is very solid and playing well as a unit. We have struggled finishing, but we made some adjustments and scored five goals this weekend at Cabot. We need to be able to finish at the net consistently."
