Work on the renovation of the Van Buren High School track facility is expected to begin this week.

Superintendent Dr. Harold Jeffcoat told the school board at its monthly meeting on Tuesday night that contracts have been executed for the $2 million project, which will include new drainage for the field, new concession stand with restrooms and a new main entrance as well as an area for storage to be located adjacent to the VBHS safe room.

Jeffcoat said the district would like to have the track ready for meets before the end of the 2017-18 school year.

“This will be a very nice facility when it is finished,” Jeffcoat said.

“This will be a total renovation,” said Tim Varner of MAHG Architecture. “We will lower the grade to make it more user friendly, resurface the track and erect a permanent structure to be used as a ticket booth, providing a nice entrance.”

Varner pointed out there will be extensive drainage work to provide for future renovation.

Jeffocat said Nabholz Construction is assisting the district in the renovation.
