Two Greenwood runners who placed in the top five at state highlight the list of the River Valley Best of Preps cross country All-Stars. Joseph Wittig, a senior, finished second in the 6A boys portion of the meet which was held in Hot Springs. His Bulldog teammate, senior Zack Looper, was fourth in the same event, helping Greenwood finish third in the overall team standings. Another Bulldog runner, junior Nathaniel Gonzales, was 19th at state. A pair of Van Buren runners, seniors Cameron Rush and Travis Cooper, were selected to the squad. Cooper was 33rd in the 7A boys meet. Southside was represented by senior Aaron Hubbard and junior Taran White, who was the Mavericks’ top individual finisher at the 7A meet. Rounding out the boys squad are Clarksville senior Tanner Westbrook and Heavener sophomore Maliek Lira. On the girls’ side, Greenwood sophomore Taylor Koeth was third at the 6A meet while her Lady Bulldog teammate Macie Cash, a freshman, finished eighth. Ozark’s girls also had a strong showing at the 3A meet. Senior Kennedy Timmerman finished seventh, while sophomore Kali Richards was ninth. Related More Best of River Valley Preps Mansfield senior Megan Rose participated in her fourth straight state meet when she qualified in 4A. Rose had her personal best time of her four trips to state as she placed 15th. Van Buren junior Julia Clark, who missed her sophomore season due to an injury, came back strong this past season. She finished in the top 10 at the 7A-West meet and was 15th at the 7A state meet. Also named to the squad were Northside senior Miriam Mendez, Alma senior Heather Padilla and Heavener senior Iris Martinez. Padilla placed 27th at the 5A state meet. The cross country All-Stars will be among those honored at the second annual River Valley Best of Preps banquet, which will be held at the Fort Smith Convention Center and tentatively scheduled for late May.
