Van Buren 51, Vinita (Okla.) 45

Lady Pointer senior guard Jamilyn Kinney put together a phenomenal first-half performance, literally right down to the halftime buzzer. Kinney nearly outscored the entire Vinita team in that span, and ended the half with a mid-court shot as the Lady Pointers advanced to today’s TOC semifinals. With time running out to end the first half, Kinney pushed the ball down the court and released a shot from the half-court line right before the buzzer sounded. The ball banked off the glass and went through, which gave Van Buren a 31-17 lead at the break. Kinney ended up with 16 points in the first half, one fewer point than the Lady Hornets had in that span. She also hit four 3-pointers in the opening half. Another 3 gave Van Buren the lead right before the end of the opening quarter, 10-8. The Lady Pointers (3-3) then started the second quarter on a 14-3 run, with Kinney making two 3's and capping the spurt with a steal and layup, which gave Van Buren a 24-11 lead with 2:40 left until intermission. Vinita was able to get to within five points inside the final minute of play, 50-45, but got no closer. Van Buren senior forward Irasema Sandoval went 1-of-2 from the foul line with 26 seconds remaining for the final six-point margin of victory for the Lady Pointers. Kinney ended up with 22 points, while Sandoval added 11. For Vinita, Lizzie Shephard finished with 15 points. River Jeffries added 14 points, while Grace Burget added 10
