The Van Buren Pointers are at the top of the leaderboard.

Junior Brayden Rivas ran for 99 yards and three touchdowns, including a go-ahead 14-yard scamper with 5:55 left in the third quarter Friday to give the Pointers a 30-20 victory over the Rogers Mounties in the 7A-West opener for both teams.

Van Buren (2-2, 1-0) will host Bentonville on Friday.

The victory was the Pointers’ first win to start conference play since beating Little Rock Central, 41-31, on Sept. 24, 2010.

Quarterback Christian Morrow finished with a 127 yards rushing on 18 carries, including a 12-yard touchdown run that helped the Pointers build a 16-0 lead.

The Pointers’ Chris Flores booted a 22-yard field goal in the first half.
