The Van Buren Pointers got some balanced scoring in Friday’s game with Clarksville.

Anytime you’re playing opposite Trace Thomas and Bob Hurley, that’s a good thing.

Brayden Gilmore scored a 17 points and the Pointers rolled to a 63-47 win over the Panthers at the Citizen’s Bank and Trust Tournament at Clair Bates Arena.

Thomas finished with a game-high 28 points. Hurley, who missed Thursday’s game with an illness, finished with four points.

The Pointers (1-3) trailed 7-2 at the start of the game before building a 39-27 halftime lead.

Logan Brothers and Gary Phillips had 16 and 12 points, respectively, for the winners. Brothers had the hot hand in the first half with three 3-pointers.

Brothers put Van Buren ahead for good with a go-ahead trey snapping a 7-7 tie.

Also for the Pointers, Ethan Moore and Trent Ball had six points apiece.

GIRLS — Freshman Brooklyn Kannady poured in 16 points to power Van Buren to a 60-33 blowout of Batesville Southside at the Greene County Tech Tournament on Friday.

Van Buren’s Elizabeth Rainwater added 14 and Kayleigh Evans 12 for the winners.'
