Bulldogs bulldoze Pointers, 46-6

Fayetteville’s offense was rolling sevens on Friday night. The Bulldogs scored on all seven first-half possessions and rolled to a 46-6 win over Van Buren at Citizens Bank Stadium at Blakemore Field. Fayetteville (3-3, 2-1 7A-West) also made Casey Dick’s return to Van Buren a successful one. The Bulldogs scored three times in the first quarter and added four scores in the second quarter to take a 46-3 lead at the half. Senior quarterback Hank Gibbs completed 13-of-15 passes for 301 yards and six touchdowns in the first half, and did not play in the second half. Senior quarterback Quin McClain scored Fayetteville’s first touchdown to cap the opening drive with a 1-yard run just 2:15 into the game. Gibbs then threw touchdown passes to culminate Fayetteville’s next six series. He threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Connor Flannigan for a 14-0 lead on the second possession. The Bulldogs used turnovers to score their next two touchdowns. After a 38-yard fumble return by Xavier Hernandez, Fayetteville needed just three plays with Gibbs throwing a 16-yard scoring pass to Isaiah Sategna. On the first play of the second quarter, Brooks Flannigan intercepted a pass and returned it 53 yards t the Van Buren 8. Two plays later, Gibbs threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Flannigan. Van Buren put together an 11-play drive and drove to Fayetteville’s 5, but had to settle for a 29-yard field goal by Chris Flores with 6:45 left in the half. Fayetteville still had time to put up three more scores in the half. Three plays after Van Buren’s field goal, Gibbs threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Sategna with 5:30 left in the half. After holding Van Buren on downs, Gibbs put Fayetteville on the scoreboard again with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Flannigan. Hernandez intercepted a pass to end Van Buren’s next drive, and Gibbs immediately threw a 90-yard touchdown pass to Luke Charboneau for a 46-3 lead. Flores added his second field goal of the game from 27 yards out for the only scoring of the second half. Brayden Rivas ran for 138 yards on 13 carries for Van Buren with runs of 57 and 55 yards in the second half as the Pointers finished with 317 yards. Sategna had five catches for Fayetteville for 115 yards. Flannigan had three for 31 with all three going for scores.
