Van Buren’s seniors had a night to remember on Friday night.

The Pointers rallied from behind with a second-half flurry to beat the co-leader in the 7A-West, Bentonville West, 35-30, at Citizens Bank Stadium at Blakemore Field.

Van Buren (5-4, 3-3 7A-West) clinched a berth, and at least the No. 5 seed, in the Class 7A playoffs with the win. Van Buren finishes the regular season at Springdale.

The Pointers rallied in the second half, scoring on their first two possessions of the third quarter.

Van Buren took the second-half kickoff and went 80 yards.

The Pointers converted a pair of third downs before Gary Phillips hit Jude Bartholomew, who turned and sprinted 30 yards for the score with 9:03 left in the third quarter. Chris Flores kicked Van Buren within, 24-21.

Van Buren’s defense then held and forced a punt, that went zero yards after bouncing back to the original line of scrimmage.

On the next play, Brayden Rivas took a handoff from Phillips around the left and down the sideline 46 yards with 9:31 left. Flores booted Van Buren up, 28-24.
