Pointers hope to keep playoff dreams alive

The state tournament possibilities for the Van Buren Pointers are pretty simple.? “It’s about as cut and dry as you can get,” Van Buren head coach Brad Autry said. “I don’t think you want it any other way. There’s not a tie-breaker, there’s not a scenario, there’s not somebody else has to do this or somebody else has to do that.? “It’s on you. If you win, you’re in. If you don’t, you pack it up.”? Van Buren hosts Springdale on Friday for Senior Night. For the Pointers and Lady Pointers, it’s also the final game in the 6A-West as the move to the 5A-West next season with Alma and Greenwood as close rivals.? Van Buren and Springdale are tied for sixth place in the conference standings. The winner will earn the final seed in the Class 7A state tournament at Bryant next week and will play on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against the third seed out of the 6A-Central.? The Lady Pointers wrapped up their state-tournament berth on Tuesday with a 42-35 win over West.? The win didn’t come easy for the Lady Pointers, who trailed 16-4 early.? Van Buren rallied, allowing just seven points combined in the second and third quarters.? The Lady Pointers will play Thursday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the Class 7A state tournament against the third seed from the 7A-Central.?
