The Pointer golf team completes their historic season capturing the State runner up trophy this past Tuesday at Mystic Creek in El Dorado! They finished right behind Hot Springs Lakeside, who shot a team 341. Van Buren shot a 346 followed by El Dorado with a 351. The Pointers haven't finished runner-up since 1990, and haven't won a State golf title since 1976.
Many call Mystic Creek the toughest course around, where you can expect to add 10 strokes to your average, but the Van Buren golfers kept their composure and battled through to finish 2nd among 12 other teams.
Drew Griffiths led the way for the Pointers shooting 8 over with an 80 and claiming the 4th best score of the day. The top ten golfers earn All-State.
Two weeks ago, the Pointers accomplished their 1st conference title since 1988.
