VAN BUREN -- The Van Buren Lady Pointers (14-7-1) rallied in the third set to complete the sweep (25-22, 25-18, 27-25) over the Lady Patriots (22-8), the 5A-East co-champions.
The game appeared to go to a fourth set when Marion built a 20-15 lead, but Van Buren used a 9-2 spurt to lead 24-22. The Lady Patriots would retake the lead at 25-24 only to see the Lady Pointers close out the match with three straight points.
"We just kept playing (in the third set) instead of trying not to lose," Van Buren coach Brent Reeves said. "Aside from a couple of 3- or 4-point runs, I thought we played an excellent second set. Marion played well to get the lead, but we just kept picking at it and we got close. That got the girls fired up and we were able to pull it out."
