Van Buren swept its conference foes this week. The Lady Pointers improved to 14-8 overall and 7-4 in 6A West play as Van Buren finished out the week beating Heritage in three, 25-20, 25-11, 25-1. “I feel like they are really starting to peak and this is a good time ofyear to do that,” said coach Brent Reeves. Grace Doolittle had 10 kills while Alex Dupree, Madalyn Doolittle and Zoe Morrison had six kills each. Mikelle Porter finished with 30 assists. Van Buren 3, Fayetteville 1 Alex Dupree had 17 kills Tuesday night to pace the Pointers to a 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-15 win over the Fayetteville Purple Dogs. Grace and Madalyn Doolittle finished with 10 and eight kills, respectively, for the Lady Pointers. Baily Brooks and Morrison had seven kills apiece in the win. Van Buren’s Porter finished with 35 assists. “Anytime you can beat a volleyball school like Fayetteville is a big win for your program,” Reeves said. “I’m proud of how they faught all the way to the end.” Van Buren finished fifth at the Southside tournament held over the weekend. The Lady Pointers started off with a win against Little Rock Christian before falling to Greenwood. Van Buren came back and won the last two games with victories against Southside B and Bentonville West. Cross Country The Pointers finished fifth at the Greenwood Invitational held on Thursday. Van Buren accrued 110 points and was edged out by Northside (104). Rogers won the men’s division with 34 poitns and four Top 10 finishes. Russellville was second (92) followed by Siloam Springs (96). Junior Cody Lowry was the top finisher for the Poitners as he placed third overall (18:19.6). Khanh Truong nabbed 13th followed by Tyler Lemley (27th) Kaleb Dudley (36th) and Adrian Cuevas (41st). Other runners for Van Buren included Caleb Lawley, James Gibson, Tyson Kutter, Luiz Conde, Emmanuel Rodriguez-Herrera. In the junior high division, Northridge placed seventh and Butterfield Trail was eighth. Siloam Springs had five runners finish in the Top 10 to win with 28 points. Parker Brown paced Northridge as he took 20th followed by Ashton McKenna (28th), Noah Underwood (70), Conlyn Doss (71) and Austin Cain. For Butterfield Trail, Jackson Sharp was 44th and finished in front of EJ Bonilla (51st), Lamberto Hernandez (69th), Braxton Bowen (80th) and Lance Adams (85th). Siloam Springs also won the junior high girls’ division. The Freshman Academy placed sixth followed by Northridge and Butterfield Trail. Lena Rush paced the Academy as she took 11th. Kara Rush was 21st followed by Tatum Burris (22nd), Emma Morton (23rd) and Abigail Bramlett (79th). Mari Gutierrez was sixth overall for Butterfield Trail. Also finishing for BTMS was Melissa Rubio (41st), Dalila Torres (74th), Alex Martinez (76th) and Katelyn King (78th). Destiny Galvan led Northridge as she placed 30th followed by Lizzy Gonzalez (34th), Meghan Hutchison (35th), Nataly Downey (55th), and Serenity Franklin (65th).
